How do Discount Mixer campaigns work with Shopify Markets and multiple currencies?

Learn how Discount Mixer works with Shopify Markets and multiple currencies, including Shopify setup, plan requirements, and testing.

Written by Neela K.

Discount Mixer works with Shopify Markets and multiple currencies through your Shopify market configuration. Shopify controls active markets, local currencies, localized storefronts, and product availability. Discount Mixer does not provide market-selection or market-targeting controls.

Important: Multi-currency fixed-price and final-price discounts require the Discount Mixer Ultimate plan, regardless of your Shopify Markets settings. Shopify Markets are not tied to a Shopify plan; this is a Discount Mixer plan requirement, not a Shopify Markets restriction.

Configure Shopify Markets and currencies first

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Markets.

  2. Open the market you want to configure and add or select its local currency.

  3. Choose the exchange-rate method and, if needed, configure price rounding. Then set the market’s domain or subfolder and localization settings.

  4. Confirm that the products and variants used by the campaign are available in each market.

  5. Save the Shopify Markets settings and confirm that the localized storefront experience is working.

Set up the Discount Mixer campaign

  1. In Shopify admin, open Apps > Discount Mixer.

  2. Create a new campaign or open an existing campaign.

  3. Configure the campaign type, discount value, Apply to rules, Exclusions, customer filters, and dates.

  4. Do not look for market-selection settings in Discount Mixer. Market availability and currency are controlled by Shopify.

  5. If the campaign uses a multi-currency fixed price or final price, confirm that the store is on the Discount Mixer Ultimate plan.

  6. Save the campaign and activate it only after testing the relevant storefronts.

How currencies affect the discount

  • Percentage discounts: The percentage can remain the same across markets, while the displayed discount amount changes with each market’s local price and currency.

  • Fixed-price and final-price discounts: Multi-currency use requires Discount Mixer Ultimate. Do not assume that the same numeric amount will be correct in every currency.

  • Shopify determines the market currency, localized price, taxes, and other checkout values. The product price, cart, discount line, and final checkout total are the results customers see.

Example: test the same campaign in two currencies

Use the same product and a campaign offering 20% off. Open the US storefront in USD and the German storefront in EUR. In both storefronts, check the original product price, discounted product price, cart line, discount line, taxes, shipping, and final checkout total. For example, if Shopify displays a product at $100 in the US, a 20% discount would display as $80; if Shopify displays the same product at €95 in Germany, the illustrative discounted price would be €76. Shopify’s actual localized price, taxes, and conversion determine the final result.

For a fixed-price or final-price campaign, repeat the same test only after confirming the store uses Discount Mixer Ultimate.

Troubleshooting

  • The market or currency is not available: Check the market status, currency, domain or subfolder, and product availability in Shopify.

  • The discount is missing: Confirm the campaign status and dates, product and variant eligibility, quantities, exclusions, customer filters, and campaign type. Start a new cart before testing again.

  • The amount is different between currencies: Compare each market’s localized product price, currency, taxes, discount line, and final checkout total. Do not compare only the numeric discount amount.

  • A multi-currency fixed-price or final-price discount is unavailable: Confirm that the store is on the Discount Mixer Ultimate plan.
