Troubleshoot why discounts appear on the storefront but don’t apply at checkout or in the cart.

Sometimes you might see a discount appear correctly on your storefront, but it doesn’t actually apply when customers reach checkout. This can happen for a few different reasons. Below are the most common ones — and how to fix them.

  1. Another App Is Using Draft Orders

Some apps (like bundle builders or custom product apps) use draft orders to create their own checkout process. When that happens, those apps decide whether to accept or ignore other discounts.

Check the other app’s settings to see if there’s an option that says something like “Allow other discounts” or “Combine with Shopify discounts.”

    • If you find it, make sure it’s turned on.

    • If you can’t find that option, reach out to that app’s support team and ask them to enable discount compatibility.

  2. A Required Discount Was Deleted or Deactivated

If you’ve accidentally removed or turned off one of the automatic discounts created by Discount Mixer, it might still appear on your storefront but won’t apply at checkout.

    Here’s what to check:

    • For older installations, make sure you have at least two active automatic discounts:

      • Advance Product Discount Mixer (or Product Discount Mixer)

      • Shipping Discount Mixer

    • For newer installations, you only need one:

      • General Discount Mixer

If any of these are missing or deactivated, re-enable them or click Create automatic discounts in the app to fix the issue.

  3. Another Discount Is Being Applied at the Same Time

Shopify doesn’t always allow multiple discounts to combine. If another discount is being applied — for example, a storewide automatic discount or another manual code — it may prevent the Discount Mixer offer from applying.

Check your cart or checkout to see if another discount is already active, and remove it before trying again.

  4. Shopify’s Automatic Discount Limit Is Reached

Shopify allows a maximum of 25 automatic discounts. If that limit is reached, Discount Mixer can’t create or sync new automatic discounts. You might see a banner in the app warning you about this.

    To fix it:

    1. Go to your Shopify Admin → Discounts.

    2. Delete any unused automatic discounts.

    3. Return to Discount Mixer and click "Fix it now" again to re-sync.
